So in my chemistry class, I am doing a report on the element neon. Well as I read I discovered that neon burned red. Why are neon tets called so then if they are known for their blue coloration? They're are alot of other colors that take on the name neon. Neon orange, neon green, etc. How does this make sense?

I think its related to the fact that the blue is a bright blue that looks like a blue neon sign would. Like the ones you see in store windows saying open which are actually filled with argon to get the blue.
