| Fish died, Why? hey guys. i woke up today to find one of my neons dead on the bottom of my tank. I hav 6 neons, then 2 days ago added 2 more neons with 3 otos and dwarf gourami. after i found him dead, i checked the water and i have 0 ammonia 0 nitrite and 5 nitrates. What did i do wrong? |

| Re: Fish died, Why? I don't think you did anything wrong, normal neons have been bred so much, their DNA is a little screwed up and don't last very long anymore.

| Re: Fish died, Why? Yep...sometimes it is just their time. So long as your water tests are coming out good and your other fish appear healthy, I would not get too worried. |

| Re: Fish died, Why? I've had 12 Neon Tetras for about 3 years, and most of them died just within last year. They just sort of "withered away" as they had no apparent disease. I think they came from a poorly raised stock, or they were just genetically weak as Tom mentioned. |

| Re: Fish died, Why? It is better to avoid the regular neons since they are really tiny when you get them and they are really prone to everything. If you like the color of them, go with cardinal tetras, ya they might get a little bigger and some places might charge a little more, but you get more colorful fish and hardier fish in the long run.
