Neon Help

I just bought a used 55 gallon tank that came with everything I need and more, plus fish! I got 3 neons, 2 chinese algae eaters, 1 black molly, and 1 micky mouse platy mix (possibly with a molly, not sure). I don't plan on keeping any of the fish except for the neons, maybe. The molly didn't come in great condition, it looked like its fins had been nipped a bit, and its overall condition didn't look so great. So I was wondering, are neons fin-nippers? Or is it just because they were only in a group of 3 and felt insecure. The fish I plan on putting in there probably include my lyretail/hi-fin sword tail so I'd rather not risk his beautiful fins. Should I get a few more neons or trade them in?

Re: Neon Help

First of all, did you cycle your tank? If so what are your water chemistry readings? Neon tetras are best kept in a group of 6. Since you have such a large tank then I think you could buy three more. But if your tank is cycling I would return most of your fish.

Re: Neon Help

Platies and mollies do not ever crossbreed. They are not genetically able to crossbreed.
