Neon Schools

Hi all.. I have alot of room in my 75 gallon tank and wanted to add neons...Just a few questions..I added about 9 neons (small) to my 55 gallon tank and I now have 4..My water quality is always very good. I have read that they do seem to be more prone to disease than others. They all seemed to be very healthy when I bought them (I am very picky when it comes to buying fish). The ones that did not make it were never found..I do have a Q tank but at the time it had 20 fry in it but there appeared to be no disease with these neons.(the remaining 4 are very healthy and happy)... So my question is: Is this a normal survival rate for them...Also can you add to many (not meaning overstocking the tank). I would like to add 15-20..but I really don't want to buy 30 to have 15...Thanks...

Re: Neon Schools

i'm not sure that it's a regular survival rate with them.

is your 75 gal tank the one that you have listed in your sig?

assuming that it's a different tank, i'd think it would be find to add 15-20 of them, but i don't know that adding them all at the same time would be a good idea since you might mini cycle

where do you get your fish?

Re: Neon Schools

The 75 is the one listed..Fish were bought from a very good LFS. I decided to only get 12..however I really don't think adding a few more would create a mini cycle in an established 75 gal tank (wouldn't bet my life on it though)....My tank also has perfect water conditions...0-am, 0 nitrite, 5 nitrate.. I wonder if pH is a problem with neons...Mine runs around 7.8...I let them float for about an hour (with bag open for ox). When I began to add water to bag to aclimate them, one was already floating. The rest are doing good now (2 days). I was just wondering if others had this same problem with neons...They seem too be very hard to get aclimated when adding them to your tank......

Re: Neon Schools

hmm - i've never had trouble with them, but i have heard that they can be fragile (but then some people have them in awful conditions, and they're still surviving). so i guess it depends.

hopefully someone else who knows will chime in.
