Saltwater Vase (very cool check it out)

http://joshday.com/picoreef.htm

This guy actually made a 1 gallon pico reef. Its pretty sweet.

Im thinking about making a bowl or something, just some saltwater with an inch deep layer or sand and a piece or two of live rock just to see what grows on it.

I don't like it. Seems like it would hurt your eyes to look at; why not just go with a 2 1/2 gallon tank?

I am planning to set up a 10 gallon nano tank in my bar in the near future with a goby or something.

All saltwater tanks hurt my eyes to look at.
It is kind of neat, though. It's like a Japanese art version of reef setups. Many of the Japanese arts are very simplistic (though very difficult to do), focusing on perfect shape and placement of the medium.

It's not that I don't like them, it's that the light refraction (due to high salinity) hurts my eyes and head. I still go into fish stores just to stare into the SW tanks, and I stare at the coral reef exhibit at the MN Zoo for a long time each time I go (and then try very hard not to fall down once I stop looking at the highly refractive, curved wall ).

sirdarksol have you tried polarized lenses or glasses, they would help cut the refraction and ease your sight. Not only in saltwater, but everyday uses like looking at a pond,or river,or lake.

I understand about the refraction. Sometimes I'll be up close to the glass looking at the live rock to see what I can see, and it feels like I can see the whole tank, not just the spot I'm looking at.

yeah, or like when your trying to get an angle at a piece of live rock and it gets all skewed

it's kinda neato, but don't you think it's not too spacey, and not very good for putting fishes, even the small ones.

There are no fish in that and I doubt there will be. It's a vase of living rock.

My glasses are polarized. It doesn't actually cut refracted light, it cuts reflected light (which is a huge help, because I'm really sensitive to glare, too)

Your mom's a nature disaster!!!!! XD if your dad doesn't want for someone to feed it during vacations then maybe he should consider buying food pyramids or SERA holiday tablets, that could last for a week or maybe try consideting automatic fish feeder

depends what fish ,, this can bring out aggression in a lot of fish so a 7 day auto feeder would be a good cheap solution to this problem and would only need some one to refill once if away for 2 weeks
