i don't know about 6 line wrasse, but we have a coris wrasse and she buries herself in the sand for 10-12 hours per day.
if your fish does this and it happens to be the times you're awake, you wouldn't ever see her.
when we first got our wrasse, she also "disappeared" for days. i made my hubby take out everything to look for her and lo and behold she came out of the sand when he vacuumed.
now her sand schedule is she goes to "sleep" around 9-9:30 every nite and comes out about 9 in the morning. so we do see her every day.
but on the last water change and vacuum, she got scared and went in the sand off schedule, so we didnt see her much at all, now she's back on schedule.
at the LFS, when we bought her, one guy said, "oh we dont have any more" and the other guy said "let me look" so he ran his fingers all through the sand and found her. maybe run your fingers through the sand and see if you find her. she wouldn't be under the rock, just in the sand.
good luck!
