Red Sea Max system

I've been seeing that Red Sea Max system advertised in a lot of places and noticed it was getting very good reviews. It's a bit expensive, but it comes with pretty much everything you need except fish, live rock, etc.

I'm thinking about purchasing one, but I'd like to hear some of the experianced saltwater people's or owner's opinions first.

Also, if I do end up getting it, should I remove the included biological filtration? I don't think I'll need it as I'll have plenty of live rock. I also think it will probably hold onto too many nitrates.

I'm a little skeptical on the included protein skimmer as well; Red Sea hasn't exactly rated the best on their skimmers in the past. I do know that it can't be too bad though because I haven't seen any complaints.

Thanks in advance!

Well i have no personal experience with it but know a few people with it. The majority seem to ditch the stock skimmer and get their own (usually a Tunze $$), same with the heater in the end. I've heard the stock stuff will work but the skimmer doesn't skim to the full potential and is a bit loud (compared to another brand i guess?).

I would personally remove the bio filtration myself yes.

Thanks.
I think I'm going to put my own tank together, though. Since shopping around, I realised the Red Sea system is waaay overpriced.

It really is i agree. Plus, you get a great deal of satisfaction from setting everything up yourself and making it work, DIY projects and such. I like putting setups together, not these premade deals.
