Keeping a Nano SW Tank: What do you think?

Hello

I'm planning to get a nano saltwater tank, just to get a little peek on the mysterious saltwater world. Well, my parents are surprised on my request and didn't agree because we think saltwater tanks are expensive and difficult to manage. Is this true? I'm planning to only get a 10 gallon with 2-3 ocellaris clownfish, and maybe some live rock. We already got a test kit, siphon and a 7-gallon quarantine tank. Is saltwater fishkeeping really expensive and difficult? I think it's kinda fun....

Thanks in advance!

I have a 60G reef and a 100+G fish only tank and had a 20G nano. I love saltwater and yes it is more expensive the equipment cost more the fish cost more. You have to buy salt. Can fall away from water changes. Saltwater fish need a better quality of water than their freshwater counterparts. If you go with a ten gallon tank your going to want to cut down on the fish too. It's really fun. I love it, the fish are beautiful (not to say freshwater fish aren't). The reason i got rid of the nano was that it was just cositng so much money keeping three saltwater tanks. But if its just one and a nano at that you should be fine.

Thanks nate! It does sound fun! But unfortunately my parents decided not to give me for sure.........But still, thanks for the reply.... Nice tanks!

I did a little research on the saltwater fish profiles in the Fish Species section of the homepage. All the fish requires a minimum of 30 gallon! Hmmm.......looks .like a Nano tank can be tricky......If I were to get one 12 gallon might be better....

Clown gobies can do fine in nano's, along with many inverts which also are very interesting to watch.

I have seen some really cool ten gallon saltwater nano tanks. It's a possibility you just have to do alot of research so you know your limits.
