MTS at work, look out!

It looks like another tank is coming my way. I have to stay off of Craigslist!!

Here's the ad: I have a 36 gallon bowfront fish tank in good condition no scratches or leaks.i need to get rid of it because i dont have the time to take care of it anymore. comes with a few fish i have 3 yellow damsels and a blue damsel. i also have a speckled eel.he is pretty long. i will send pics upon request of him. fish in good health havent had any problems with tank or fish. water has been cycled for about 2 years.

comes with
heater
fluval pump
overhang pump
thermostat
20 or 30 pounds of live rock
half bag of salt
food for eel and fish
pH test kit
and more
He is asking $ 100.00 for the whole set up. He will call me today with details and arrange a time to pick it up.
I am busy reading about eels, it seems that this eel may have outgrown the tank, I may need to rehome the eel and damsels. Not sure yet.

Definitely figure out if you want to keep the damsels before you put them into your tank, they can be difficult to catch later on. Congratulations on the great deal, craigslist can be your best friend

Yea Lori, I'm thinking rehoming and an empty 36 gal saltwater tank. My husband seemed intrigued by the eel so maybe more seahorse's will have to wait.
Thanks Dave on the damsel tip. I may not put them back in the tank. I'm not sure that eels and damsels are for me.

Okay, I'm picking it up on Thursday, fish, eel and all. There is not a stand so I'm looking at improvising until I can get one built(oh Hubby)! I need another tank like I need a hole in my head. Why? o why? do I look at the ads! A friend of mine needs a tank for her box turtle so I said I'd keep an eye out for one so of course I don't find the box turtle a new home in stead I end up with another tank. Let's see, I wonder where I'm going to put this puppy.

Nice...sounds like a great deal!!

I don't really care for damsels...I suppose they have their place but they get way too territorial the older they get (and are super fast...hide in the live rock...etc).

Toss the TV out, it's taking up the perfect spot for your new tank

Uuhhhmmm! Not a bad idea on the TV. Hubby would have a fit though, its his giant, space consuming, football watching, pride and joy. However I'm eyeing my old computer and its stand. We only use the laptop and netbook these days. That PC has not been turned on in months, I think its gotta go. The stand may be sturdy enough to hold the tank. Anyone have experience with computer stands and tanks?

You should add some sort of reinforcing support just in case, stands are meant to hold the 100's of lbs our tanks end up weighing. A 2x4 or two would do the trick.

I just got rid of my computer stand to make room for my 90gal and moved the computer to the TV stand, it stays hooked up to the TV for streaming Netflix movies and the such

AHH yes, we must have streaming video for Netflix as well. We use the laptop, connected to the TV. I think that we can reinforce the computer stand. Its from Ikea and it seems to be fairly sturdy so I think if we remove the rollers and add a few 2 x 4's, voila an aquarium stand. Tomorrow is moving day on the new tank. My game plan is to take two 5 gal water containers and three large plastic storage containers. I'll bring newspaper to wet down and cover the live rock, a small covered container for the damsels and another one for the eel. I have 10 gallons of saltwater brewing right now to top off the tank after the move. I checked with two SW fish stores in Portland and they both have agreed to take the livestock if I don't want it. I won't be able to get into Portland until Saturday so I will put the eel back into the tank and keep the damsels in my DIY QT plastic Storage container. If I have to set the new tank up on the floor for a few days so be it.
