frag tank setup?

I was thinking that with some extra money i have (about $300) i would set up a little frag tank. I dont have too much space for anything beyond 5 or so gallons. I might even go with a 2.2 gallon setup. I was just making sure thats ok (i dont see why not) and what im going to need. I was thinking for starters:
Tank
Heater
Filter (possibly act as powerhead also)
and whatever i decide to use for shelves.

Right. usually you dont put in sand or anything right?

What are your intentions with this setup? For general starting of your own coral frags? If so this size tank will be fine. If you're looking to grow them more i'd look at a larger tank. I think you will quickly find you should of gone for a bigger tank. I've done the same thing. A 5-10gal would make a nice small frag tank.

Depending on your light and room temp, you probably won't need a heater. What lighting are you going to use?

An HOB filter could act as a powerhead, especially in that size tank. You could always add another small one later on if you wanted to increase or redirect the flow.

Shelves. Eggcrate, or light diffuser as found in Lowes or Home Depot works pretty well. Especially if you use frag plugs, the plugs fit nicely into the little holes. Just snap some pieces and either silicone them or zip tie them together to make shelves. You can also attach suction cups to them and stick them to the sides of the glass.

Sand. Some do some don't. I'd prefer not to...easier to keep wastes out of the tank.

Not my tank, just one i found on Nano-Reef. Shows both types of racks made of lighting diffuser.

well im thinking of using my sump tank (not really a sump tank- more of extra space for equipment) but there isnt any lighting setup.... but im going to need that- so thats what ill spend my money on i guess. The water will be clean, heated, therell be some current and now some lighting. So that should work right? (its 20 gallons) and while i wait for the light ill make a on the wall frag holder that i saw on youtube.
