Well there's the question. I have an established 55 gallon cichlid tank. my saltwater tank is in the middle of cycling with 2 clowns and 3 damsels. i wanna speed up the process and was wondering if i could use the bacteria from the filter media in my 55 gallon to do so.

Edit: i contacted my LFS and they informed me it's two different types of bacteria. guess i just have to do it the old fashioned way!

great question...I was hoping a salty expert would have answered this for you...im too leary about trusting the lfs lol...

yeah i'm pretty sure it won't work, the salt will kill the bacteria. i think it can work IF you raise the salinity very, very slowly, but since you've already got it set up that's not really an option

Hi there Fullofit I am in the planing and research stage of a salt water tank and I have read some were that the BB in marine tanks are differant then FW tanks and it will just die and not do anything but kill the BB you used to seed....Hope I helped Rob
