I NEED YOUR OPINIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT DO YOU THINK??

my dad's friend is going to give me his 150 gallon tank when all his fish die.... and I am planning ahead!! I have been debating what to do with it... I have come up with many different set-up ideas....which one do you think is best?

1. Freshwater Heavily Planted Neon School Tank
50+ neon school, cory cats, otos, and a pleco.

2. Freshwater "Rocky" African Cichlid Tank
Assorted African Cichlids

3. Freshwater Planted Community
Assorted Killifish, Assorted Peaceful Cichlids, other community fish

4. Freshwater/Brackish(archers can live in brackish or fresh so i can go either way
Archer fish and possibly a few gobies of some sort

5. Brackish
Archer fish, Figure 8 Puffer, Gobies, other brackish fish

6. Freshwater Large Cichlid Tank
Elecric Blue Jack Dempseys

I'm open to any other suggestions....

i say 1 or 5, too. I say 5, actually.

And then get a school of like 8 or 9 mono sebae. they ROCK. you'd need a heavily planted corner and then lots of swimming room in the rest of it, though.

Re: I NEED YOUR OPINIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT DO YOU THINK??

wait but I heard that there arent many plants that will tolerate salt in their water.... and the brackish might become a hassle... as it is more difficult than freshwater. it would be cool though

that would be a great tank to turn into a SW tank if you had the funds for it.

Re: I NEED YOUR OPINIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT DO YOU THINK??

A 150 Gallon SW tank could get VERY EXPENSIVE even with all the equipment... stocking a SW tank that big with live rock, sand, and aquatic life would still soar to a few thousand dollars for that large a tank. And plus all the extra equipment you need. A LOT of money

I would say 2. I would get Lamprologus Brichardi (Fairy) Cichlid....a whole group of them. Their breeding behaviour is very interesting. The parents raise their young and their previous young help prevent their younger siblings.

there's a few plants that you can do brackish. it also kinda depends on how much salt is in your brackish. i know java fern/java moss will work in brackish.

I would say either 2,3 or 5. As for the plants that would be able to survive in brackish water, check plantgeek.

Option #6

Large Cichlids are awesome and not so bad to care for.

Or Option #7

Wolf Cichlids. They are the King Fish. If you are feeling adventurous, get 2.

yea, a SW tank that big is a ton of money for sure.. one day i hope we can do one.. thanks a lot Nemo! :P

you could do a tank that I'd like to do (if we ever stop buying bettas ) - a "see-thru" tank filled with schools of various fish that you can see through, like glass cats along with corys and otos.

Re: I NEED YOUR OPINIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT DO YOU THINK??

do glass cats school? and are they good for a heavily planted tank or no? Thats an interesting idea. There are a lot of cool transparent fish. When I was younger i went to a private school that had a 100 gallon fish tank in the "Lobby" (it was a building). The Tank had one VERY active pleco and a school of transparent tetras. I think they were dyed though because there were abnormal bright (highligher) colors streaked across their spines.

glass cats should school, they like to be in a group. i think most, if not all, of the transparent fish out there will school and many should be compatible and make for a beautiful, peaceful tank that's not your everyday tank.
