Moving...
I posted a while back and I got some responses but I wanted to re-post because we are getting nearer to the time of our move.
Here is the information:
We are moving from our 5th floor apartment to another apartment on the 13th floor of the same building. We have 4 tanks: 46g, 16g, 6g, and 2g.
Our 2 small tanks will obviously be quite easy to handle. The 16g and the 46g are the concern. Both tanks have loads and loads of plants, in addition to tons of shrimp (mainly cherry red). They are all community tanks with tetras, platies, cories, a couple of plecos, and tons of guppies. The largest has MANY guppy fry swimming near the surface, hiding in and around the many plants.
My theory for the 2 big tanks would be as follows:
Take out all the plants and wrap them in wet newspapers. Next, take out about 1/2 to 2/3 of the water. Remove the fish and shrimp and put them in temporary holding buckets. Drain the rest of the water -- and most of the substrate especially in the 46g -- and then transport the tanks to he new apartment. Then, add water (some that was saved from earlier, and some fresh water) and put the plants back in, and then the fish and shrimp after everything is hooked up again.
If anyone has any suggestions on the above process, please let me know.
