I'm planning for the future of my freshwater kiddies, and was hoping for some suggestions on size for their final home. I have been upsizing from the 20 Gals I started with, and soon it will be time for the last move. The tank is currently 150 Gals. A couple are still small as I had some losses. But they will be included eventualy. So here's the break down:

2 iridescent sharks (1 is 8in, 1 is 5in)
1 Tinfoil Barb (9in)
1 Oscar (5in)
1 Sarassa Comet I saved from homelessness (7in)
1 Cobalt Blue Crayfish (5in)

In addition, I have 2 baby Tinfoils and 1 baby Iridescent That will join them when they grow up. I would also like to find a mate for my Oscar, and a more appropriate home for the Comet. So I know I need ALOT of water. I'm thinking 400 Gal will do it. Leave me some suggestions and tell me what you think.

Considering given the right condition the sharks should get 4' or bigger you need a tank that is probably 5' deep and 12' or more long and 2'+ deep, not sure what that giving you but I'll look somewhere where it tells you how to calculate the size for large fish. Tankmates sound good though.

Wow that's almost 900 Gals. If this conversion site is right lol. Well Good thing I'm dedicated, I guess. I always wanted huge fish. lol Probably a good thing I have a concrete slab floor too. Oh well I'll just have to stay the course. I started these guys when they were WEEEE little guys in a 20 gal for 6mths then 30 then 55 then 150.. They have outgrown their home about once a year. Its ok though. It gives me an excuse to upgrade my new saltwater tank, with the old freshwater tank. Anybody know the cheapest place to get custom tanks lol. Wonder how hard it would be to build lol. Thanks for the dimensions. I had never really thought of it like that. I always think in gallons. I guess when they get so big the "rules" change a little. I mean they have to be able to turn around right.

Thanx for that Info. Very useful. Makes alot alot of sense when you think of it on terms of size in space. I'm already planning a DIY sump system in my head Can any one tell me about quanity of fish. If I'm gonna have 900 Gals., how many of these fish can I keep with a healthy space for everyone.

I wouldn't buy anymore fish until you have the tank but what's your current stock list?

Currently I have 3 Iridescent Sharks, 3 Tin Foil Barbs, an Oscar, and a Sarassa Comet.
2 of the Sharks (7in and 5in), 1 Tin Foil (9in), Oscar (5in and growing fast), and the Comet (5in) are in 150 Gallons
The others are young and very small 2in in a separate nursery tank. I would like to keep the Sharks, Barbs, and Oscar together in the long run. The Comet I would like to see in a more appropriate setting. Oh I forgot my coblat cray 5in. At some point I'd also like a mate for the Oscar.

OH how much a person can learn in a years time. Thought I'd look back at some old posts and this was the first one I posted. If I knew then lol.

Well, I still have 150 and it's doing ok. I now have 2 Iridescent sharks. The baby died. Probably better that way. 3 Tin Foils (2 four inchers and a 10 inch). As well as 1 10 inch Oscar and the Raphael Catfish I left out of this original post. The cray was eaten by huge clawed frog I had for awhile. The frog dissappeared later. My plans have shrunk considerably. I'll be keeping them in the 150 till I just can't any more. At some point I will have to do something with the Sharks. They aren't growing nearly as fast these days so I think I have awhile. Certainly won't be adding anything till I have the room.

Anyway, just having some fun with old posts. lol

Yea, it's something to look a year back. I think we signed up a year ago today and just did a few posts until March, when I really started to realize how great a community Fishlore was.
