Losing a fish and a few questions..

I lost my peppered cory
A few days after I got my Albino.
He never seemed "right" when I got him home from petsmart, I tested my water "regularly" with a master test kit reading 0 ammonia and Nitrates.

I Made Use of my TopFin 10 filter and threw a big Aquaclear sponge in it. So
is that WAY to much filtration for a ten gallon? Total of 230 g.p.h with the Pengiun 150 bio-wheel. Too much?

I'm considering getting an upside down catfish would he be ok with 2 cory's 3 neon's and 3 zebras?
I know that option may be disliked but i really like upsidedwn catfish!

Hello Metal Fish. If you would be so kind as to fill out your Aquarium Information when you get the chance it would be a great help.

Sorry to hear about your fish loss. Personally I think your tank is pretty well stocked. If you want to add the upside down Cat fish be sure to keep up with your water chemistry and water changes.

You do have a lot of filtration going on there If your fish seem to handle the current well, then I wouldn't worry too much. You don't want your fish to be struggling to swim all of the time.

I filled out my Aquarium info.

The fish do not seem to struggle with the current, not even the tiny 1nch tetras.
But my Cory's seems to constantly swim up and down the glass for about 2 mins, then feed on the bottom for a while then shoot up for a gulp of air. I'm guessing this is normal? They seem super active.

im sorry for the loss of your fish
do you know what your nitrites are? and even with one plant, im wondering why your nitrates are 0 ...hmmm...230 GPH is way too much for the fish you have and the tank size ...although more is always better with filtration, not in that size tank...even if they dont seemed stressed, thats gotta be a current to try hard to keep up with..although occasionally swimming up and down the side of the tank is normal, something is going on for them to pass.....do you have something going on the outtake/intake valves?

My cories swim up the side of the tank often too, but I've never seen them at the top for a gulp of air.

Is there a control on your filter to turn it down a bit? My Penguin HOB had a notch on the intake tube thingy. My canister filter has a tab on the top of the canister. Maybe you could turn the flow down a bit?

The sponge should slow down your gph and if isn't add a bigger sponge. As bacteria builds up the slower the gph. What kind of master kit are you using?

I noticed in your aquarium info that your tank is reading all 0's.... my guess is that it isnt cycled and your cory's are the one being affected the most.... I suggest you do a 50% WC a day with Prime and maybe even get some established media from your 29g to help seed it

When you added your albino cory did you also add the water that came with the fish to your tank as well? Bang up your nitrate bottles b/c crystals seem to form when left idle causing inaccurate readings.

I did add the water that was with the Albino, I just did another round of test my nitrate went from 5 to 15? And I am still worried about how much my cory's swim up and down the glass...

i have corydoras and the do seem to swim up and down the tank alot. my ones do get air from the top sometimes

i did have a albino for a while but it died soon after with a rosey red inside

when i was reading about breeding them it did say that when they are trying to breed they swim up and down the tank, but in saying that they need cooler water levels,

when my peppered corydoras used to gulp for air at the top i figured they needed more oxygen so i got a air pump for them and he stopped doing it so much.... but i guess the force of habbit is too strong.
