I was looking through the different tanks that some people have posted pics of and I had a thought.....
We all know the 1inch per gallon rule for small/medium fish but wot about the space that some of the big decorations take up in a tank?
wouldnt that affect the amount of fish inches you can have in a tank?
if nothing else it would cut down on how much swimming they could do.....

It's a good question. I think it depends on a few things...

If the deco is real plants...
If the deco is solid and/or large.
If the deco is actually hindering the fishes ability to swim.

Considering deco can be good for fish (hiding spots, etc.) I think it's kind of up to your best judgement whether your deco is doing any harm.

If your fish is a big waster.. you should know the more water space you take up, the more you're going to have to clean!

It's like when I get in the tub...for some reason I start out with a little and wind up with it up to my neck and then I stand up and wha laaaa just a little bit-o-water

I mean we all see tanks with big rock piles or castles and stuff in them which do take up alot of space
