Brian | She will have five or six tanks of cons because somebody does not want her to use them as fish food. |

Brian | Hopefully, I'll have the courage to feed them to my JD. If not, I'm hoping to find them GOOD homes on Craigslist or Aquabid. Last resort is the LFS. Quote:

These guys I've seen lately just don't have "it", ya know? |

| Well in all seriousness they do thin themselves out a bit with the strongest ones being the survivors. Now I do have tanks with different sizes in them but they are different ages. I do know that there are not as many as the mom and dad started out with in there though so it is survival of the fittest. I'm really not trying to be cruel but as I keep trying to tell Tommy in the wild they would be eaten by other fish....not that I am getting through to him by any means. I completely agree on needing better lines. The mom and dad that I have do have great color and it is becoming hard to find that lately. You definitely don't see it at most LFS now. Hopefully with BB mixing some good cons from Shawnie and from my house we will get some better lines around here. Hee hee Shawnie and I will kinda be related then won't we LOL. |

| I hope no one gets mad at me, but I'm attaching the picture of the big male I put in with Cleo. His name is Caesar and he definitely is living up to his name. He's the one that kept climbing into the rock and we didn't think we'd be able to get him.
If these two can't improve the lines around here, than nothing can! |

BB, i used to feel the same way about feeding fry. I used to have guppies that bred. The first batch i left in the main tank and kept 5 in the breeding net. The next batch of 60, i had no pitty on. I fed them to my bettas and left them to fend on their own. I'm pretty sure that once you have them for the first time, you will have the courage to throw them in the JD tank. You could throw in a couple and who knows, they might get eaten, they might not
I think giving them to the LFS is not a bad idea, you could improve the Convict lines in your area...
its up to you...
No pressure
jk
EDIT: BB!!! Cesar is amazing! |

| Thanks, Tony! I just wanted to make sure SWilkins could see him with his new girl .
I know I sound weird, but I'm fine feeding guppy fry, I hope I get to the point (if my guys figure out the instruction manual-hee,hee) where I can feed convict fry to George. Maybe I should research. I never thought of feeding fry to bettas. I may have more omnivores around here than I thought. |

| There is something about feeding live food. I know some think it is cruel, the main one of those lives here with me. But it is always a show when you feed live food around here...better than lots of movies I have seen!!! |

i used to think it was cruel, untill i was over run with fry, i had no option and the LFS didnt want to take them all, so i had to "use" some of mine as food. It was very entertaining to watch my slowpoke betta babies "trying" to eat them lol...
i dont think its that bad, i would only do it if i was in the situation where i couldnt get rid of the fry. I wouldnt buy fish and use them for food, thats just messed up IMO |

I don't want to buy "feeders" because of disease, so that's when I started researching ways to raise my own. If I get feeders from a reliable source (another responsible fishkeeper) before these guys breed, then I'll feed them to him, but otherwise, he'll have to wait until I breed my own. We've established that I'm pretty paranoid when it comes to my fish, so of course I have to paranoid with feeding them live food that's disease-free |

| ahahah that's good. I guess you're better off with guppies, you can have multiple aged fry that when you decide they are plumpy, juicy and big, its time to go in the big tank with the big guys( if you know what i mean)
in other words, their time has come lol
i might try that. Right now( i dont know if its right) but i am colecting beetles. They are the ones that curl up into a ball, i have them right now, breeding so i can feed the babies to samson. i fed him a youngster earlier today and he loved him! it was quite a sight, anyway, i am only going to give those to him as a treat... |

The only way I would use feeders is to raise my own or get them from a trusted fish friend. |

Hey you want a bag of con fry too?
My JDs love smushed ramshorn or pond snails too!!! I will bring you a bag of them too if you want them. Last edited by SWilkins; September 5th, 2009 at 06:56 PM.

I'll tell him I'm putting them in the 20 gallon guppy tank upstairs No thank you on the con fry or snails. Then I'd have to come up with something to tell my "you know who" since she loves snails so much and I'm probably going to have to work up to the con fry thing. Plus, you know how I am. I would want to keep them as well. Sooner or later, I'll probably have to get a con fry grow out tank and I want to make sure I have a place to put it. Right now, I know I can move the 55 tank in the kitchen over to make room for another tank, but that's as far as I've gotten. But I do appreciate the offer on the con fry and snails. |
