Moving in the morning...

I'm going back to college in the morning and I am bringing the 20G... Max I can have... and I trying to figure out the best way to take my Danios.

It's a 2hrs drive. I have some Water Wisteria and Java Moss which I will put in there own bags. But I dunno if I have a large enough tub for 8 Danios. I know one way is to put them in a tub and cover them but what else? I know I have to dump the moving water cause of stressed fish.

My first thought was to grab a huge bag and put like some Java Moss in it along with my 8 Danios... but I believe this is a bad idea...

I took 3 rosy minnows in a half liter butter container for a 2 hour drive and they were ok.

A cooler will work well and help to maintain the temperature. If you have battery powered air supply, that would be great too. You can find them at your local fish store for around $20 or less. I drove with gold fish for 6 hours and they were fine. Add some Nova Aqua + or whatever you use to add slime coat/stress reliever.
Best of luck with your move.

And that's that... I have already lost 3 Danios. I They ended up being in a bag for around 10 hours. I lost 2 T5s (one of which was bought minutes before beginning the journey). Also a thermo was broken.

They were really panicking by the time I was able to get the tank set up... and then when added to the new tank they seemed so happy. Then one by one... apparently died from shock? Maybe. They slowly got very weak and were breathing heavily. I did a test on the water and everything seemed fine. Minus a slightly higher pH, which I believe I mis read. At first test it was around 7.5-.6. I was already around 7.2-.3.. did a high range ph test I now I know it is between 7.8 - 8. Poor fish.

I have 5 left 4 of which is doing great the other is trying to survive. The other show little signs a life. Trying to pull through. I hope she does... I believe she is preg. I've been trying to breed these guys.

Good morning Apollo. I'm sorry to hear that some of your fish did not survive the move. I hope the rest are going to be ok. I'm sure you did the best that anyone could do for your fish.

Ok something isn't right I think I may have had a jumper and another died.

I retested the water this morning...
ammonia - ~1.0ppm
nitrite - 0ppm
nitrate - ~5ppm
pH - ~7.5

So it seems a mini cycle seems to be the culprit though I thought these fish were able to survive these things.

And on a side nide my Water Wisteria leaves a curling... they didn't do that before...

Sorry you're having some bad luck with your fish at the moment.

I'd say do 50% water changes daily and use Prime to detoxify your ammonia until your next water change until your mini-cycle is over. It shouldn't be long, though. Mini-cycles are usually pretty short-lived.

Sorry you lost your fish. I would suggest going out and getting some TSS so its safe for them untill your tank finishes its mini cycle...
Maybe you could also get some Ammo Lock, but i havent had experience with that, maybe another member can tell you about it..

Well I picked up some stress coat and a new thermo.

Remaining for were just kinda huddled at the back of the tank and kept swimming into the sand as if they were trying to swim away, but as the day went by they have returned to the middle of the tank. Not quite at the top. I've seen some chasing. Their colors are vibrant again.

So I found a piece of at T5 bulb in the tank yesterday... which leaves me to believe that there may have been an abundance of mercury in the tank... or am I just crazy?
