Possible heater malfunction

I think I've killed my heater. The lowest temperature it seems to be able to maintain is 85-90 degrees(F). It's one of those submersible heaters. Is there any way to recalibrate it or will it need replacing before I actually need a heater? I've got another heater running in my fish tank...I got the two of them simultaneously because I had two tanks at the time. I'm testing this one because I want to get another tank going. Anyway, maybe this heater wasn't allowed to sit unplugged for 15 minutes in the water before it was removed?

Re: Possible heater malfunction

It's a couple of months old. I checked the water with a thermometer. Still cruising at 92...I could take a bath in there!

Re: Possible heater malfunction

I wouldn't trust it. I'd either try and get it replaced or just buy a new one. If you look at some new ones, check out the stainless steel and titanium heaters. I will never go back to glass!

Re: Possible heater malfunction

Funny you should say that Gunnie, I just got a stainless steel one at Drs foster and Smith online a couple of months ago and love it. Wasn't really expensive either.

Re: Possible heater malfunction

Stainless steel? Titanium? Those sound hardcore...we'll see. I'll have to go to the store anyway because I have a sick clown on my hands, so I'll peek into the hardware section. How much do those cost? I can't remember how much mine was...couldn't have been more than $20 because I got two. And I need---hey!

I smell another shopping spree coming on. Sand, driftwood, plants, 55 gallon? Yes, please! Wow, this is all y'all's fault.I assume none of the responsibility for the funds depletion that will happen over the next few days. And with a holiday weekend coming up...oh, dear.

Re: Possible heater malfunction

It looks good, and also the big thermostat thing looks great if you fix it to the wall next to the tank
