I'm in my second week of cycling an my water is starting to form bubbles on the surface that are making foam balls i have a fluval405with a tetratec uv5 system and a aqua clear 110 filtration and a tetra tec deep marine air pump i don't see a rainbow are film look on the surface of the water my fish look fine but i don't no if this is a problem are not can some one help me does anyone have an idea what this is your help well be appreciated

hi! the only time I've had bubbles on the water surface was when I was adding too much dechlorinator to my tank (after water changes)..I didn't worry about it, and luckily nothing happened to my fish, but I have since read in one of these threads that you can actually poison your fish if you overdose on the dechlor...yikes! don't know if that helps, or not..good luck!

I agree I was using too much as well in my first tank when that happened.

Stresscoat while being a good dechlorintor will foam if too much is used or the tanks are just topped up instead of water being changed. The aereation will cause it to foam a little also.
Now if you feed alot of high protein foods that woll sometimes cause foam around the edges.

thanks every body did a 50% water change and bubbles went away
but now I'm having another dilemma tank has been running for three weeks now i have a 75gal with 17 fish in it it's my cichlid tank Ive been using product call cycle and bio zyme for bacteria my water readings is ammo 8.0 - nitrite 1.0 - nitrate0.25 i just purchased a product call bio spira i added to my tank yesterday and i did a water test today ammo still the same nitrite the same but nitrate went back 0 ill let you all no what the turn out was in a week are so but in the mean time in between time did i do the right thing and why am i getting such a high ammo reading after 3 weeks well i heard about bio spira lets see if it works my fish look fine though have two pair of convict that laid eggs an one set hatched already i don't no being patient but these tanks are going to drive me crazy but its OK i love my fish help is greatly appreciated

Your ammonia is at the lethal level. You need to do at least a 50% water change NOW. I know thats a lot of water( i have a 75G). The bioSpira is suppose to be used at the very beginning when you add your fish so it can grow as your needs grow. Since the water parameters were so high when you added it I don't know if it will help or not, hopefully it will help some.
You need to continue to do daily water changes of at least 25% after todays 50% until the Ammonia comes down. Please test it daily before the water change. I'm afraid your fish are going to start dieing. Keep us posted.

butterfly the ammo has been like that for the last two weeks i have 5 convicts 3 female 2 male an two paired up they laid eggs an they hatched i didn't do a water change today but ill do one tomorrow its funny cause none off my fish or showing signs of stress they* are all swimming freely unless they come into the convict territory but other than that they eat fine i feed them once a day and my water is a little milky i don't no ill start the water changes when i added the bio my water conditions were ammo 8.0 , nitrite1.0 and nitrate.25 that was three days ago now the nitrate went down but ammo and ntrite still the same do you think i should do water changes r just wait fish look fine though what should i do*

What kind of tests are you using? Are you putting drops of solution in a tube filled with tank water, or are you using test strips you just dip in the tank? If you are using the liquid drop tests, do your colors on the card go from yellow to orange, or yellow to green? What kind of water conditioner are you using?
