brown spots?

i have lately noticed quite a few brown spots on the inside of my 55g, is it a type of algae and if soo will otto cats eat it?

sounds like diatoms. yes it's algae but it's completely harmless, just a little annoying. i dont know if the otos will eat it, they should, but it likely doesn't provide as much nutrition as the green algae

oh thats too bad, it is annoying every time i scrub it off it grows right back.

lol, yeah, it tends to do that. i think it occurs mostly in newer tanks, so maybe just give it some time and scrub it off every once and a while and it will probably go away

Newer tanks get it and then it disappears completely. In my 10 gallon tank, I had them for about one month shortly after it was cycled. Then, they disappeared and I haven't seen them since. Now it's just green algae!

I'm told Ottos love the stuff. But they are sensitive to new tanks. I got it all over my tank right now. I scrape it off the glass.

Thanks. He was a beautiful fish for many years. He's gone now though. I have Bloodfin Tetras and Cory Cats in a 20 gallon now.
