bloodworms?

i have heard that brine shrimp will help bring out the true color in fish but i couldnt get any because the petstore dosnt sell them. they did sell frozen bloodworms so i got those and i was wondering if they help bring out color in fish and if it would be good to give some tiny bits of them to my guppy fry (about 1 -2 weeks old.) lost count of how long i have had them.

thanks for the help.

you'd have to give them very small pieces and there's no guarantee they'll eat them. They're still pretty young, and they won't get their color for another month or two. So I'm not sure about feeding fry bloodworms.

My young variatus are about a month and a half old, have about 90% of their full coloration and eat small bloodworms. Just be sure to have some snails or net out the worms that aren't eaten.

You could try making a hard boiled egg and take a small pieces of the yolk and rub it between your thumb and fore finger. The crumbs are the perfect size for the fry and egg yolk proves to be very nutritious for them

tfa has some great advice!!! and also clean tanks, great water conditions, and a varied diet give fish tremendous colors....I think the fry are too young for blood worms tho...kens makes a DECAPSULATED BRINE SHRIMP EGGS that is super for fry...butterfly recommended it and ive been using it for a few weeks..all the fry I have love it and its very cheap for alot of product...heres the link

i wasnt able to find newly hatched brine shrimp or brine shrimp eggs at my petstore but im thinking of breeding them if my mom will let me. i put in tiny bits of bloodworms for the fry before i made this thread but they do take little nibbles of it and it is soo cute when one trys to pick up a piece and its the size of their body LOL. my molly loves it when i feed her it, how often could i feed her bloodworms and how many? also could i feed my feedergoldfish Buddy bloodworms or are they just for tropical fish?

when i get home from vacation i will try the egg idea and i told my friend to clean out their poo every couple of days so the water should be clean.

thanks for the help

oh yea i do have a snail in the fry tank.

Be careful feeding young fry bloodworms....I've had a few of my betta fry get them stuck and almost suffocate...I had to pull 1 of my babies out and use tweezers to pull the stuck bloodworm out of his mouth (what a sight to see) Some stores sell the baby bloodworms which are tiny and better for young fry....

figured you were shopping for food

as far as feeding bloodworms to any other fish, keep in mind that a fishies belly is as big as one eye..that should let you know how much they need to fill them tummies up

If you can't find some of the foods you want at your local fish stores try a local bait shop or feed and seed type place. I am from a small town so fish stores are rare, but we have bait shops a plenty, you might have better luck there. As for small bloodworms, some stores - I think I found it at Meijers - cary freeze dried ones, they are on the rack with the flakes. The worms are pretty small already, butt you can easily crush them if they are still to big. I don't know if they have they same nutritional value when freeze dried though.
