injured guppies

I have a ten gallon tank that's been set up for about 2 years. I had a male guppy, a neon tetra, and 2 other tetras ( i don't know specifically what kind ). I added 2 male guppies, an african dwarf frog, and a male beta fish about a week ago.
I went out of town for a few days and when I came back my two new guppies had chunks missing from their tails. My older guppy was kind of picking on one of the new guppies so I'm wondering if he is the one bitting. I don't know though because the bites are kind of big for the mouth of my older guppy.

I'm wondering if it could have been my beta fish because the bites look about the right size for his mouth. I was told at the pet store that the beta would be fine with my fish and that he would only show aggression towards other beta fish. He also hasn't shown any aggression towards the other fish.

The nitrate level in my tank is a little high, but I've been working on that. Could that have spiked the aggression?
I only have one tank so it would be hard for me do anything without knowing which fish is being aggressive.

Does anybody have any advise for me?

welcome to fishlore!!!
it was probably the betta as they arent community fish...they like to have a tank of their own ....the pet stores will tell you anything to sell you fishies....a nitrite reading means for some reason you are in a mini cycle ...you will need to do daily water changes with some neutrailizer like prime to finish that off...goodluck!

Thanks.: )
I put in a seperation wall to keep the aggressive guppy separated from the injured ones. I also got a new tank for the betta fish to live alone in.

awesome job....if you can get some stress coat+ or even just some regular stress coat, that will heal his fins....
