There's something weird in my tank

I "inherited" the tank from my husband, who has had it for years. It's about 30 gallons, freshwater, with super filter. For about a year, we only had one angel fish in it. We bought a "mickey mouse" fish and some other fish of that same family. When we introduced the new fish to our tank, we introduced something else with it.

It started as a small grouping along the back wall of the tank. The angel fish ate them all (whatever they were). Then, they showed up on a leaf of one of the fake plants. We cut off the leaf. A few days later, more showed up on another leaf of the same plant. We threw the whole plant away. Now, they are back on another plant. What are "they?" Tiny little blobs that start out in a clearish-reddish-brown color then turn white. Right now we have a large grouping (probably hundreds of them, but it's hard to tell because they're so small) on a leaf of a fake plant.

Here's a pic-- best I could do

My husband thinks they're snails. I think it's some kind of fungus. Any ideas?

They appear to be eggs of some sort. Do you have any fish other than the angelfish and the platy? If your lone angel is a female, she could well be the culprit.

They could be eggs and they turn white because they're unfertilized and turn white from a fungus

THey look like eggs to me.

It would be helpful in narrowing it down if you could tell us exactly what kind of fish you have. If you don't know, can you post some pics of them?

We have the one (huge) angel, a "mickey mouse" platty and a sunrise platty. As I've said, these things didn't show up until we got the platties about a month ago (from petsmart, if that helps).

And I stand corrected- the angel has been in the tank for about 2 years.

Platies are livebearers, so they're probably not the ones responsible. Not to mention that they look like angel eggs, and angels can often choose a broad plant leaf to lay their eggs.

My guess would be that the introduction of the platies was a coincidence, or that the angel had been laying and eating eggs in the past without you noticing.

OK... So if it is angel eggs (which is what it looks like now that I've googled it), what do I do about it? There's no male to fertilize, and to get another angel now would be dangerous because the one we have now would pick on it. Can I get rid of them? Is there anything I can do to stop her from laying them?

And are they really that tasty? Is she like a hamster eating her own young? Will she not vote for John McCain?

I concur, they definately look like Angel eggs to me as well. I had Angels in my tank for well over a year, and then all of the sudden they paired and spawned. The introduction of the other fish may have triggered your female Angel to lay eggs. Mine now spawn about every 17 days. I unfortunately have two males in with my female and the two males have been fighting constanly. The male that my female did not chose as her mate is absolutely beautiful, and I really don't want to get rid of him.

Those are Angel eggs, Yes, they taste good. No you can't stop her from laying them. Yes, most likely the addition of other fish did trigger her to spawn. Since they are infertal I would remove them unless she is eating them all. Her eating them is not a bad thing.

I like mine pickled. I think they call it caviar. Though I'm not sure if caviar is a trade name for sturgen eggs or if it can be used for any roe.

Well dang it. They creep me out. But she is eating them, so I guess I'll just leave them.
