Could you cycle a bucket???

I was thinking... would it theoretically be possible to cycle a 5g bucket? I know that some bacteria lives in the gravel. What if you put an airstone under the gravel and put some bio-spira in there or something? Could that work?

You could easily put a filter in there and cycle it, or go for Diana Walstad's method (I'm no expert) of EI natural aquariums.

I've added a peice of seeded filter media to a small tank with no filter, so I think it might work especially for the time you need it for.

I was also thinking of in the future being able to use the bucket as a quarantine tank.

If you have small fish a medium kritter keeper works, that's what I'm using for an ADF, it's about 4g. I added a small whisper filter.

Hm, the Walstad method looks very interesting. Don't know if I have the skills to pull it off though.
I'll also look at the critter keepers, that could be a good thing for me to have, and for alot cheaper than a new tank.

Pretty much any container that is water tight and food safe is useable.

Buckets, totes, bowls, vases (size appriopriate for fish), etc.
