For those of you with large tanks that can't be moved (when full of water) with anything less than a crane or tractor... How much space do you have between your stand and the wall? I'm setting up a 75 gallon tank and obviously I won't be able to move it after its full, so I want to be sure that the 6 inches between my stand and the wall is enough.

Definitely leave enough space for you to fit your hands (including your entire arms!) in there. Considering that a 75G tank is pretty large, leave plenty of space between the wall and the tank. If there is some problem with the filter (especially if it is a HOB filter), or any other problem, you should have easy access to the back of the tank and to the filter. It is a different story with a canister filter, which can be hidden inside your aquarium stand/cabinet. But I'd leave considerable space even with a canister, just in case ... of what, I don't yet know, lol. But ... you never know, so you know ... right? LOL

Yeah, I'd rather have too much space than not enough. I'll be using a canister filter and the stand doesn't have shelves or dividers inside so I could crawl into it if necessary. hehe.

i left a good 15in lucily for me, because one of my pipes from an air stone came loose from the air pump and obviously because it was lower that the water level, it started a vacuum type effect and we came home to find a good 300litres of water on the floor and thought the tank had cracked. We had to put towles down behind the tank, and stand on them, luckily my hubby has long legs cos he had to fit his leg behind the tank!!! better safe than sorry, but it was rather funny in the end!
