This is so sad :(
I'm a newbie to the forums but I had to post this. I was browsing on ebay for fish and I found this: http://cgi.ebay.com/LIVE-Tropical-Fi...742.m153.l1262
It made me so sad that people would do that to fish. I've heard about the dyed fish, is this the same thing?? How could someone actually tattoo a fish??

They can tatoo a fish, and they do unfourtunatly do that.. I don't see how that person has 100 percent feedback! It looked like that fishes fins were clamped? If so it was unhealthy! Oh... that makes me so mad! I wonder if someone could report them for unethical treatment of animals and get them thrown off of ebay?

O, Look an email address from the people/shop selling the poor fish.
surfin4fish@hotmail.com
Please, if you are going to send them a email or 30 or 100 keep them clean and just make a point that the word is getting around all the aquarium forums that they are selling fish that have been torchered and that you would not make a purchase from them or recommend them to others if they continue being a part in this cruel trade.
Please people, if you are members of another site or forum, get others to send.
Dont make any threats.

Im not a huge fan of peta for their terroristic actions.... however I just made a complaint to peta w/ this ebay auction on it.. and a write up on the process of tatooing... so peta will have a field day w/ this person... something has to get a hold of these tattooed fish selling people..

Yeah! Those tattooed fish have to learn that they can't sell people anymore.
Seriously, though, I wish that eBay wouldn't let people sell fish at all. You've got to have certain licenses to do so, but I would prefer it be limited to Aquabid, where the aquarist community can do a better job of "policing" these kinds of sellers. Despite the fact that there seems to be no ban on tattooed/dyed fish, a search for them turned up nothing. I'm sure there are a couple in there, and I know that there are dyed shrimp, but not many.

I was at a site (segrestfarms.com) the other night, they had the tattoed fish, they are fish store distributors, but you can see what they have. I was shocked to see hearts, stripes, flowers tattoed on the poor fish. How on earth did they come up with this idea? Plus, the thing that is worse, they wouldn't be selling them if people weren't buying.

I'm not sure. I suppose it's that people think that fish don't need as much care, or can't suffer like cats and dogs. It doesn't really make sense to me, either.

It's ridiculous really, I mean what kind of people buy this stuff?? And how do these fish stay alive anyway?? I've been struggling to get rid of ich off my fish for at least a week and I test their water daily, and know all the tricks of the trade. You think these fish would die from shock. I almost with they would, it would be less suffering.
I agree about sending an email. As long as its tasteful maybe if we send enough they'll at least quit selling on ebay just because of the annoyance.

Oh and I love how in the item description is says "Rare" fish. Well duh, it's rare because it's not naturally occuring in the wild and 3/4 of the fish that are tattood die so the ones that make it alive are "rare." I wonder how many make it alive to the person they're sent to.

It's a cruel process that kills many fish. Even their picture shows a distressed fish with clamped fins. Totally inhumane.
