Elephant fish learned a lesson, LOL

Elli is a very picky eater, and will only eat blood worms (at least that's all we see her eat).

Every night my husband puts her block of worms in her log and she guards it with her life while eating, when she's had her fill she leaves the log and goes to the jug so everyone else can have the leftovers.

2 nights ago, Elli spent all of her time guarding her worms and hardly got to eat any (the other fish gang up on her distracting her at both ends of her log, LOL). She spent the whole time swimming from one end of the log to the other.

Anyway, by last night, boy did she learn the error of her ways... eat first, then guard the worms! Poor girl was starving and ate like a pig last night.

It's so much fun to watch the personalities of your fish

we have an elephant fish also named Ellie.

yes her FAVORITE is Blood Worms, but we only give the tank that about once a week. the rest of the days she eats flakes with the rest of the fish.

but she's a happy happy girl with the worms.

CALAMITY JANE, WELCOME TO FISHLORE !

I have wanted to say that for a couple of days.....I've seen your posts, but never one that welcomed you....

Interesting fish, what others do you have? Do you have pictures, we all love to see others fish tanks...

One I have and love is a Black Ghost Knife fish, I don't see him as often as most as he only comes out at night, but he "hides" at the back of one decoration, and I have a mirror up so can check on him from time to time...He too loves blood worms....

Oh I love the Black Ghost Knife fish! We saw one last week at the LFS, and he was beautiful!

We've got the 55 gal, that houses Elli and Jaws, plus a few schools (hatchet fish, male fan tail guppies, swordtails, cherry barbs & surprisingly enough 2 yellow chilids (sp?) and a paradise fish. It's amazing how well they get along. Everything I've read says the yellow guys should be raging havoc on the tank.

The 20 gallon tank is the "slow tank" LOL, 2 dwarf gouramis, mini angel fish, 1 mickey mouse and something that's called a blueberry & raspberry, (not sure what the technical name is). It's the mellow tank.

Welcome to FiahLore! Your "yellow guys" are evidently the same sex. If they were one of each sex and were ready to spawn they would be tearing up the tank. Good luck

If you go up to the top of the page you can input your tank information under "MY settings", in the aquarium profile and it will be a part of your profile every time you post, so people can keep track, and you can update as things change.......

We did think they were "up to something" last week. They were both taking turns guarding the jug, like they might have eggs in there. Do they get really mean during spawning times?
