Questions about African Dwarf Frogs

I've done my research and decided to get one of these froggies to add to my community of guppies, tetras, and one snail. I know these guys are all peaceful tank mates so everything seems good so far.

However I am having a very hard time finding good information on specific topics for them. Such as safe medications to use and whether or not I can use aquarium salt with them (Can I even use it with a snail in the tank?)

Lastly does anyone know of some good websites on these little ones? All of the ones I have found are pretty basic.

Any info would be greatly appreciated

Mine lived in a salted environment. We kept ours @ 1 TBS per 5 gallons. I have since learned that to be too high. (See my other threads.) He was killed by our filter intake. (See my other threads.)

I just use the amount of salt listed on the box of aquarium salt for tropical fish and I have had DAF for 2 months w/ salt in the tanks. I have had to used malichite green for ICH once they survived through that, and they do fine with stress zyme, stress coat also. However I have no snails.
I also have 2 frogs I just think that they need company.... I actually got a male and female by luck. and they have been breeding..
I completly love them! they are an awesome addition to a community tank...
beware though any fish w/ larger fins they can tear their fins w/ their claws.

I looked through your other threads and didn't find anything on froggies. Could you please point me in the direction of these froggie insight threads?

From what I have read so far it seems that all the fish you have in your 29 gal are compatible with ADF except maybe your rosy barbs. I read they are not compatible with tiger barbs so I don't know if it's just tiger barbs or all barbs.

Generally you should not keep ADF with "aggressive" fish. I quoted the aggressive though because they seem to do well with bettas, which are usually considered to be very aggressive.

Hope that helps, I'm still learning about these little guys.

Maggie,
I was referring to the over salting of the tanks and my filter intake killed a ADF when he got lodged in the tube multiple times, hence the addition of foam on the end of the tube. Sorry to be so vague. Reconsider salting the tank, it has made a difference in mine. Also protect the frogs from the filters!

Thank you for the info I got a little carton of salt just in case, but I don't think I will be using it too much. If I do it will definitely be less than directed, just cuz I paranoid lol.

Also, I shall be adding foam to my filter today.

Thanks again!

I have never heard of the filter issue, but I honestly think I have one weak filter anyways in my tank where I keep my froggies... I will have to remember that when I move them to my other tank. I am going to put them in my other one and put a puffer in the tank where my guppies and the froggies are now.... (I will have to get a diff filter for the puffer he needs something more high maintinence)...

Good luck w/ the froggies! I love mine! They are the greatest additions to a community tank I think!

steveangela, Take a piece of filter foam and cut a nice block larger than the intake tube. Cut a slit in the middle and slip it over the intake. I found a technique using a copper pipe fitting that makes a clean hole in the foam. Check my posts. My frog legs were both sucked into the intake and he couldnt free himself. I rescued him a few times but he finally succumbed to the intake induced injuries.
