Planning my 55g tank

So I'm going to be setting my 55g tank up soon, and once I've done so, it's going to look pretty darn empty. I have a total of three gold(orange? I can never remember the right name) barbs and two glassfish right now. First thing I'll be doing is giving both groups of fish a proper school. A total of five of each of them puts around 30" of fish in the tank. (Not positive on the size of glassfish, so I'm presuming 3", as my glassfish are about the same size as my barbs). I'm thinking of putting a group of dwarf cories in the tank, figure four of them at 2" apiece, leaving me with around 17".
Lastly, I think I'm going to take this chance to adopt the pleco from the tank at my brother's day program. The poor thing has been living in a 10g tank for a year or more now. I think I'm going to try to get them a peckoltia of some sort to replace it.

Are there any huge issues with the setup as I have it described? I know I'm pushing the bioload, but I really want to get that pleco out of that little tank. I'd love to see how big it can grow when in a good tank.

Things will, of course, be taken slow. The pleco will go in last, so the bacterial colony will be fully set up. I'll be starting with the current Collective, then adding the barbs to get their school set up, then the glassfish, then the cories. I'll leave time in between for the bacteria to grow.

Additional question: I've heard people say that different species of barbs will school up as long as they are about the same size/shape. Cherry barbs look about the same as gold barbs, would they work? I wonder particularly because the cherry barbs seem to be more peaceful than the gold ones.

I dont know about barbs but thats how danios work, I have a zebra/leopard/pearl danio school and they all seem really happy with their scrapebook school. I would assume that barbs would work the same way.

i guess the cherries will school with the golds...but it all dpends on the personalities of each individual fish
