Your lfs store may take it or you could post him for sale/or adoption on a for sale site.

I had a pleco that too big, and a local lfs took him gladly. They store does good tanks, so I left him in a good place. Some lfs's will also offer you a trade so you can bring home new fish if you can handle that.

Try and find a local aquarist group. They probably have someone in the group who has a large enough tank with some extra space.
Or taking it to the LFS is a good idea too (check with them before packaging your fish up

The Petco by us has an adoption tank, people can take fish there, and someone can adopt them out... for free.
We always check the tank, but the fish usually go very quickly, and we never have any luck with get a free adopt-o-fish.

i`ll run down to petsmart and see if they`ll take him or trade thanks for your help. I've sold fish from the classifieds before but its better to sale rarer fish or no one will buy them.

There usually is a big pleco or 2 in the adoption tank at petcos. Good luck with finding your guy a good home.

Depending on it's size if you know anyone who has a fish pond, They may take it.
Supposedly once there near adult size they can survive in a pond. I'll be able to tell you for certain in the spring. The one I have, grew to almost a foot and a half this year and I wasn't able to bring him in for the winter because the tank I have wouldn't hold him, so we'll see if he makes it. I check on him almost everyday to see if he's alright.

I give my unwanted fish to the store, but they never pay me for it, which I find a little cheeky, and also, they never listen to my asking them for a guarantee that they'll go to a home with a bigger tank. So it's got disadvantages.

Big Al store take unwanted fishes because they have big display tank were they put them. I gave back just one fish a big Chinese Algae eater - very agressive. After months I can still see him in the plants tank. He is alive and well.
There is no room at Pet's Mart for adoptions .....
L
PS: Big Al offered me 2 $ which I didn't take.

Well if you are really mean like this guy you could always flush 'em. Yea that's the worse way to do it though. Bring 'em to your LFS

How big is he? I could use a large Pleco for my 150. lol I've been searching for one that is big enough to not become Oscar food. Guess shipping a big Plec in December could be a problem lol. I'd be willing to at least help pay for shipping. Again, I don't know that shipping is an option. Just an idea. If there's a way to get him here, I'll gladly take him off your hands. I probably live fairly close if you're in Utah. I'm in Colorado very near the Utah border. Anyway, it's an option right? Good luck in whatever you decide.

That sounds like a great solution, I often drive 500 miles for new fish, wish I were THAT close to another state, and folks that are like minded.....

I agree. Whats better than a fish going from one fishlore member to another?
