Wood

hey guys

i have just recently decided to redesign my tank , i went out today and bourght a large piece of wood which i know i need to soak. The shop owner who i know is a trusted man tells me if i run boiling water over it 2 or 3 times it should take about 30 mins then i pour another load of boiling water over it then i should be able to put it in my tank.

is this really true and should i put it in the tank today?

If the water isn't brown after the third boil, yes, it'll be fine. The first boil will kill off any nasties, the second and third are for removing the tannins that would stain the water and possibly affect the Ph level.

Ok I'm confused (what's new? ) Are you pouring boiling water over the wood or actual going to boil it in a pan?

Thats cool, it's early here and just finished my morning caffeine so my brain wasn't interpreting posts very well LOL
The reason I asked is that even bought wood (depending on the type) will leech tannins if not boiled in a pan until the water is no longer stained with color.
Now we need pictures of this fabulous wood. Everybody that knows me knows I love rocks and wood in tanks.
