We're moving! What to do?

We're going to be moving in about a week. Our house was being remodeled after a fire and the contractor informed me today that they should be done in about a week. We're about 10 minutes away from where we're moving back to. Question is...... How do I move my tank and fish? Is it ok to dump half the water and just move the whole tank?

Go down to yer LFS and beg or borrow one of there shipment containers and a number of bags they give you to bring home new fishies in. Fill the bags the way they do at the store and put said fish in the bags. Bags into the shipment box or Cooler if unsuccessful at mooching a box. Last item before closing door on old place is drain much of the water so tank is movable. First thing at new place, fill tank (adding chlorine remover to preserve good bacteria in tank) and let warm to temp while you unload the boxes. Put fish back in tank. Order pizza.

MagpieTear has you covered properly, but another way of doing it.. since it is not far.. put the fish in buckets, put lid on bucket, drive, and unload once there... of course.. WATER IN THE BUCKET Make sure to put your filter media in the tanks as you move them, with just enough water to cover the bottom, that will keep the filter media going with good bacteria.

Best of luck on the move, and glad your house is fixed.
