Tell me about it. My spare heater plain old stopped heating up in the middle of the night in the hospital tank, and my replacement heater overheated. My poor poor poor sick little white molly had her last night really uncomfortable because of it. Am so annoyed about this.

yea, we're not buying any more visitherm heaters after the 2nd one went into constant heating mode, this time almost cooking our red double-tail combtail.. the heater wasn't even 6 months old, about 4 months old. They really should last longer than that i think, for what they cost.
poor little molly, i know why you'd be pretty upset with the heater's manufacturer.

Well Mollies like 70-82F, Platys like 65-78F, Guppies like 66-84F so your livebearers would probably be happier at 74F than 84F. I'm not sure what kind of tetras and danios you have, but Zebra Danios like 65-75F.

The head & tail light tetras like 72-80F, the glowlight tetras like 72-80F and the neon tetras like 69-79F.

All of the fish in your tank would be happy at 74, but only the gups have 84 in their temp range so i would leave the heater off for now or get a heater than could keep the tank around 78F max.

For the overall population of that tank, I'd say 74-78F would be the best temp range for the tank.
