Q & A

I am not exactly a novice here but it has been a long time since I have had fish. The equipment has gotten much better and the breeds of fish expanded. I do have a couple of questions tho. I bought two very small Paku. They are a pretty silver with red bellies. Do these fish change color when they mature? All the pictures I find of the adult paku are a dark brown color. Will mine stay silver or turn the dark brown color?

Also I have read about adding a small amount of salt to their tank. This is a new idea for me. How do I add the salt and what type of salt are we talking about here. I value my paku and wouldn't want to harm them.

If what you have are red-bellied pacu, here's a page with some pictures

Not sure about how much salt (if any) pacus like.

Out of curiosity, how big of a tank do you have? It those are red-bellied pacu, they'll need a 250+ gallon tank when they grow up, which won't take terribly long. Not sure if other pacu are smaller, but someone around here probably does and will probably speak up pretty quick.

What sized tank do you have for them? They get huge, just in case you didn't know. I wouldn't put salt with any fish from the amazon, unless it was sick.

This site has some info on them.
