Pictus Catfish - does anyone have them?

Good Sunday Morning, everyone;

As I narrow down the choices for my 55g, I desperatly want to put a couple of pictus catfish into the tank. I think they are so neat. I have been reading and it seems they should be okay with; Sailfin Mollies; Dwarf Gouramis; cories ; clown pleco; and maybe a pair of angels.

I also see lots of conflicting info, so if anyone has any, would you please let me know how they are in a community tank. Apparently you can keep them singly as well. They would all be around the same size except for the cories and clown pleco.

Thanks. Val

They are suppose to be good community tank mates, my only experience was less than satisfactory, as they were tramatised and didn't live 2 days. I think if you are setting up a new tank, and introduce them close to first, before other fish like angles go in, it should be ok.

As they get big enough, they will eat the cories.
I saw one at an auction last week that was over a foot long, and still not full grown.

I would not put them with fish that stay as small as those you listed.

Thanks, guys, Chief Water changer also told me they would eat the cories. I love , love, love the cories more. And a fish like that that gets 12 inches long........kinda creeps me out.

I am making a meditation ( well really, have a glass of wine and chill) corner ( meditation sounds more sophisticated) so don't want anything that will send me off the wrong track..LOL

They are now officially off my list.

I have 2 pictus (both spotted pims). Each in a different tank. One of which is a fish eater. I found that he enjoys both guppies and neons, and although I didnt see it myself, I assume he ate my tiny panda cory who was less than an inch in size and is now MIA. The other one is peaceful. In my experience, each one is totally different. The fish eater is totally laid back but growing quickly (most likely because of his live fish diet) and the other hasnt grown since I have him. The peaceful one is so skittish I have to slowly approach the tank or he will dart around the tank and bang his face off the glass. So I guess it all depends on the individual, as with most fish... but, they are oneof he coolest guys around.

How about some torpedo barbs? I think they're just beautiful, and they're really nice to watch. My LFS has a display tank with about 8 of them in it, and they're just so fluid in their movements.

They do get to about 6 inches though, and I would suggest at least 5 of them, so they might take up too much room in the tank for your plans.

Any how, I noticed they don't get too much attention...

Let us know what you decide to go with.
