Fuzzy, slimy white stuff on Mopali wood

I have three pieces of Mopali wood in a tank. One of them I soaked for a few days (left rings in the bathtub and made my wife rather unhappy), and I still ended up with really dark water, dark enough that the bottom of the tank was almost completely unlit, so I decided to boil the other two. One of the two boiled pieces has now developed a white coating that appears fuzzy but feels slimy and is really difficult to get off of the wood.
Anybody have any experience with this, what may cause it, and how to get rid of it?

Its probably bacterial. Boil it again to get rid of it. It was probably not processed fully before you bought it.

I'm checking on that right now. I've got it in an isolated tank, now, so I can treat it as I want. Hopefully I can eventually discourage any kind of growth.

That's an excellent question. I haven't had a chance to check on it in the past couple of days. When I finally get home tonight, I'll take a look.
