overly aggressive fish

One of my fish has become overly aggressive and is repeatedly attacking other larger fish. What can i do to stop or change this behavior. The fish in question is a Rainbow Shark.

Re: overly aggressive fish

Sharks are aggressive. You may be able to help the problem by getting a larger tank (how big is your tank?), or by adding more hiding places for the other fish. Otherwise you may need to give the shark away. Sorry.

Re: overly aggressive fish

have you tried giving him the "time-out" treatment? taking him out for a little while, rearranging the tank some and acclimating him back in?

Re: overly aggressive fish

Thanks for the answers but the other fish started to fight back and all is back to peacefulness in my tank

Re: overly aggressive fish

If you want to keep the shark and make sure there is never going to be any fighting again, just take out the shark and put it in some sort of container that woul be able to hold it for about 20 or so minutes, move some of the decor around until it doesn't look the same and then reintroduce the shark, do this whenever you see some aggression.

Re: overly aggressive fish

I'd try moving him out really temporarily, and then re-arranging the tank in his absence.

I'd also add more hiding places

I'd also add a visual barrier (e.g. tall plant in the middle of the tank?) preventing the fish from seeing the whole tank at once. That way, fish that want to be left alone just go to the other side of the tank.

Ooooh, and for some fish such as mollies, a higher temperature makes the fish more aggressive.

Hope this helps.
