Re: Planaria?
Let it be known ... it is open season for planaria right now! Fry, munch away! Do your worst! Total extinction of Armadillo's planaria population? Great!
Here's hoping your fry stay very hungry.

Re: Planaria?
If you kill them you need to be aware they will cause an ammonia spike and so the tank will have to be super cleaned(vacuumed, large water change)

Re: Planaria?
Oh right, I read that article yesterday. Completely forgot it said how big they get. Guess I don't have planaria, whatever I have is much smaller.
Oh, and how big do planaria get?

Re: Planaria?
Mine are tiny. Like 7mm at the most I would say, and that's a long one. Most are 4mm, if that. Actually the baby mollies did a great job at getting rid of them. That and the tank's temp had to be increased drastically because one of the babies had ich. Nothing like a 4 degree celsius increase to get rid of unwanted lodgers!

well there was a big quiet pond by their house so we let the plecos go in there as catfish do quite well in the local lakes and ponds. i hated to do it, they were beauties and i feel bad not taking them home, but a big pond with lots of algae and all is better than a cramped tank or the "adoption tank" at the LFS where they'd end up in another small tank probably. just one of those can't win deals, but hopefully we did the best thing for the plecos.

Re: Planaria?
Well the temps over in Florida are OK for that, aren't they? Maybe they'll make it. You're right, they wouldn't have been best pleased in a small tank, would they?

yea, this region is home to many species of catfish. it's just the first time we've had to let fish go like that and violates our desire to give all the fish we find homes, even if they're probably the happiest ever. hopefully they'll grow to full size now too as they did have some stunted growth already.

Re: Planaria?
How do you know if a fish' growth had been stunted? Did you know their age?
If the pond is not too far from your house, you could always go and visit.
