Revamping 20g tank

It's finally happened!
Miyamoto (my koi) and Kamotahi (my goldfish, whose name is an abbreviation of the Japanese phrase "He Who Eats Snails") have moved into their own tank. I think they may have killed off the shrimp, but that was half expected. The shrimp were an experiment. However, Kamotahi seems to have decimated the pond snail population in the tank. I'll take that trade off.

Anyway, the point of this post is that my 20g, the poor, Frankenstein tank that has been cobbled together and kept going with equal parts questionable science, prayer, and luck, is going to be partially rebuilt. Part of this is going to involve pulling all of the plastic plants and replacing them with real plants (now that the goldfish and koi won't rip them out of the gravel, though they're happily doing that to the chainsword in their new home). Part is going to involve attaching powerheads to the UGF. I've decided to keep it and see if I can maintain it. Plus, I've heard that otos prefer having a current, and I'm hoping to, little by little, change that tank so that the otos are happier. Happy otos might be breeding otos.
Lastly, the removal of Miyamoto and Kamotahi means that I have more space in the tank. Unfortunately, much of this space is going to be taken up giving the glass fish some semblance of a school. I wish I had the space to give both the glassfish and the barbs full schools, but five of each, plus the two otos, plus the Cthulhu, my little Cory, would be way over the tank's limit (although still probably under the waste produced when Miyamoto and Kamotahi were in there.

I say again, YAY!

Can I just say ... your fish have great names! Hope everyone (with the exception of the shrimp I guess) is happy with the new arrangements.

Re: Revamping 20g tank

Well, the plants and the clams (if the clams are still alive. It's so hard to tell, they barely open their shells), aren't thrilled about the move, either. Miyamoto is trying to uproot both.

And I'm wondering, based on something FLBettaCouple said, if Cthulhu, the Cory from the community tank, is missing his big brothers. He's ill, and this came on shortly after the other two were removed from the tank. FLBettaCouple said that Cory's prefer having others of their kind around (something that I didn't know).

Re: Revamping 20g tank

I love glass/x-ray fish and would have to pick those over barbs, if it was me.

we had 2 corys that were happy together, even though the fact sheets say 3. True, the more the merrier - but just 2 seem to be happy and active.
