Pregnant Molly?

Hello everyone. I have a dalmatian molly, which i think is pregnant by the size of her belly, but am not for sure. I am new to fish keeping and have no experience so far. I just bought her three days ago, and so if she is then she already was when i bought her. Just in case she is i have a breeding net and plenty of plants on the bottom of the tank. I attached two pictures of her if anyone would like to look at them and tell me if they think she is?

And also i have a black molly who is a male, and he has been acting strange. I bought him on the same day as the dalmatian molly. At first he acted normally, but after i added a couple more guppies to my tank (if this matters) he has hidden in spots in the tank where the other fish can't find him. He only comes out for food, and when he does the lone female dalmatian molly acts very aggressively toward him chasing him around the tank until he goes back and hides. Does anyone know whats going on with him?

I have a 16 gallon tank, 2 mollies, and 6 guppies (3M & 3F).
i've tested the water multiple times and everything is normal.
temp is 78 F

Hi Ladycatchick, Welcome to Fishlore! Your Molly does look pregnant to me. Most Livebearers bought from petstores are kept in tanks with Males and Females, so theres a pretty good chance she was pregnant when you got her.

Congrats on your pregnant molly!

I have the same troubles with my Sailfin mollies chasing each other. Sometimes the female will chase the male and the male will chase the female, then they'll fight. I'm not sure what's the issue. Someone told me mollies will occasionally chase eachother due to territory or just because one molly is bigger than another. I'm looking for some answers too. ^^

Hello lady. I agree with Nick. Your Molly does look pregnant but I believe she has a way to go before giving birth. Most live bearers give birth every 28 to 40 days.

Hello. I've moved your thread to the "Molly" section of the forum to help you to get more responses.
Thanks!
Ken

Welcome to Fishlore, Ladycatchick!

I would definitely say your molly is pregnant. Just before she gives birth, she'll look like she swallowed a box. Molly fry like to hide at the top of the tank, so having some floating plants on top will help them hide as well until you can catch them to put them in the breeder net.

Enjoy the site!

thanks for all of the reply's! I am now 100 percent sure that she was pregnant because there was 15-20 fry in the tank when i woke up this morning. pretty cool i caught all i could find and put them in the net and all fish seem to be doing fine.

and thank you for moving my thread!

Congratulations on the fry! Wow, that was quick. Usually they box up before they birth.

I know you didn't ask, but if it helps, I feed my fry three times a day. I have crushed fry food, brine shrimp and golden pearl.
