If I Post Some Pictures...

If I post some pictures of my molly fish would anyone be able to tell me if they are male or female? I think the people in petco may have lied to me regarding the sex of the fishies...

Certainly. Try for good side shots, if possible.

Or you can check the following thread and forum for pictures:

That link was great. I think I may have ended up with two females instead of two males. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks so much!

PS: Sorry the pics are so blurry, the fish just wouldn't stay still!

Do either of them look pregnant? I really don't have room for babies lol

They're definitely females. If they were in a tank with males, than yes, they're probably pregnant. Mollies are really good at eating their babies, though. If you leave any fry in the tank, they probably won't survive so you don't have to worry about it.

You will know when they're pregnant; they don't just get fat, they literally looking like they swallowed a rectangle. A rectangle with fins. Ninety degree angels and everything.

Well neither of them look like they have any boxes inside them. Perhaps I lucked out and got the only two females mollys that aren't promiscuous.

Thanks!

remember though, that livebearers can store sperm from previous matings, and even without a male, they can still give birth

if you don't want babies, just leave them in the tank. i'm sure your rasboras will take care of it.

when i specifically need a male or female i always ask to choose my fish, pick out a nice looking one too

you can easily tell if they are male or female by the anal fin, males have a thin pointy fin and females have one that looks like a fan. though careful, when females are swimming they tend to retract the fin so it looks similar to a males! so wait til you see them stop swimming.

i wouldn't necessarily trust anyone in a pet store to be able to distinguish males and females..
