I Want more fish in my tank is it possible?

Hello I just got about a 23gal and i had a 5 gal which i AM keeping as a quarantine or overfill tank. the 23gal is gonna be the main tank. Currently in my 5 gal i have about 7 creamsicle lyretail molly fry and 2 otos .the fry are about 1 inch long already andd i was wondering if somehow i could keep all of my molly fry and otos and get somemore fish between the 2 tanks? If i could what kind of fish would be best and how many? The 23 and 5gal are both filtered, heated, bubbled, temp. gauged. Thanks.

Hi!

i am a little confused with your post haha.
You say you want to keep the mollies in the 5g with the otto, and want to get different fish for the 23gal? I believe mollies need tanks larger than 10g, heck i would even go for a 20 because they are high waste producers...

So you want to transfer the mollies to the other tank and want to know if you could put more in there. I would say yes... maybe a couple of cory's or a DG...

YAY for a new tank

If your tank is cycled, your fish would thrive better if you moved them all over to the 23g. That 5g is way overstocked as it is. Mollies can get at least 3 inches, plus your ottos...so you're probably pretty close to stocked with that 23g. I don't know if your mollies are old enough to tell, but you really should keep mollies in a harem, so the males don't exhaust the females to death.

Ummm, nothing will really fit comfortably in a 5 gallon for any extended period of time except for a betta or maybe a single honey dwarf gourami; I think you're right to use it as a QT if you don't want a betta.

Once your molly grow up, they'll fully stock your 23g. Slightly overstocked but managable.
Have you ever seen full grown mollies? They can get up to 4"
I'm always surprised when I go to a fish store and see the size of full grown fish compared to the younger ones you see.

i was just hoping to get a fish for me to enjoy while the fish are growing up. both of their parents have died so i wanted an adult fish like a guppie or a glofish to play with the fry. there slightly bigger then a glofish

Are the fry all the same gender? If not, you'll soon have more molly.
Something to think about:
If you get a fish for your mollies to play with while growing up, what will you do with it after the babies grow up?

I don't have expereince with live bearers, but I think it's pretty young, like a couple of months old.

I know you don't want to hear it but I think you're pretty much stuck at this point. You can aim to add a low bioload fish but I wouldn't. Overstocking a tank can cause lots of problems and once those Mollies reach full size, you'll be at your limit theoretically.
