About to do something rash

Sorry for posting so much. I think my fish are an obsession right now.

I posted that I just got some Molly fry...well, to prepare my shrimp tank (and where I was thinking of hiding the fry) and since I'm due a water change, I used about 3G of the main tank water in my 5G and then refilled both with treated water (stress zyme, stress coat and dechlorinator). Just took my readings and ammonia is from "Safe" to "stress". Also, all three mollies are just hanging out at the bottom of the tank, which I've never seen them do.

Both tanks have the same readings...all else appears fine.

Is there significance to them hanging out at the bottom? I'm worried, even tho they've only been doing it for an hour or so, but it's since I did the water change.

Well, it could be because you did a water change. Depending on what you did, your fish could just be a little scared. My black neons get splotchy coloring when I gravel vaccum. They should be fine. Mabye try feeding them some bloodworms?

I'm not sure, it could just be the water change or it could be something else. If your ammonia went from Safe to Stress, then I would do something about that. I suggest that you use a water conditioner that detoxifies ammonia such as Prime or Amquel+. Amquel+ should be used in conjunction with NovAqua+ or another water conditioner which promotes the slime coat. Prime can be used alone. If you don't have a test kit that gives you quantifiable readings like the API Master Freshwater Test Kit then I would use one of those as well.

I wouldn't worry too much about them hanging out at the bottom unless it continues for a while. I would worry more about my chemistry right now if I were in your shoes. It is much harder to control chemistry in a smaller tank due to the low volume of water.

Well I just noticed that one of them is swimming around, but the other two appear to be ticked off. My 3 "unidentified" fish, I learned, are red minor tetras and they are constantly darting at the other fish and nipping. Does anyone know anything about these fish? I got them, being so inexperienced, on the advice at the LFS. But they don't school, as I was told they would. They just seem to swim around terrorizing each other and the mollies.

And now since I turned off the aquarium lights the mollies are swimming around like normal. So confused...
