Molly Mania!

Is it fair to say that Mollies are generally not fish of favor in most community tanks? I don't see them on most stocking lists. Now that my tank has been running for awhile, I can't help but notice that they are the goldfish of the tropical world - pooing machines unmatched by any other.

I was excited when the first few fry arrived, but now I'm over it
They are one tough pooping, eating, breeding machine, and I've lost count of how many I have. At least 40 now and more on the way!
They are also the most friendly 'in your face' that I have. I am now seriously thinking of relocating them into my 60 litre tank, and offloading as many as possible to the local, if they will take them!

Yes, mollies are not the first choice for the typical community tank. Reason being, you seem to already notice some, they are big waste producers, grow large (maximum being half a foot long), can be rather assertive towards other fish and each other, and are very prolific. I've never had experience with mollies, but I wish to later on. I just haven't had the room.

Usually the fish store will take them in, but you might want to consider asking other fish owners if they'd be interested.

My, err, quarantine tank! I now have relocated all but 1 male & 1 female adult mollies & 3 youngsters ( haven't been able to catch them ). Two silver mollies gave birth in the new tank, luckily. I would not have coped in the large tank.
I think I have 2 black mollies with babies on the way!

I forgot to upload the pic Interesting about the aggression. I didn't know they were capable of that.

Great to have, but no way I can keep them. Unless I use them as live bait, should I let them grow then after a few weeks off load them to the LFS?

I'm not convinced they will hang onto them for sale unless they're a reasonable size.

without a sale size fish, they will use them as feeders....each individual has an opinion on that one way or another...I did raise some of my fry as feeders as I fed them and gut loaded them with plenty of nutritious foods for my live fish eaters.....again, thats a personal choice so I cant recommend what you do ...my sa cichlids love live food...
