when to put in breeding tank?

my female molly has a big tummy with a little black spot at the rear end so I assume that it is pregnant. how do you know that it is time to put it in a breeding box/trap? and about how long should it stay there? HELP!

Breeding traps stress fish out I wouldn't recommend them I would either take her out and put her in a established breeding tank or adjust the filter to a slower intake of water and put cheese cloth around it. As well as have plenty of places for the fry to hide from the other fish.

what fish hare in the tank? if you have a large tank with hiding places and there are no predatory fish in the tank you could just let her give birth there then catch the fry.

breeder nets/boxes aren't that good, you could use a separate tank instead, 5 gallons should be fine.

i decided to separate my 3 mollies (2 pregy and a male) to a 5G tank and i'll put some artificial plants. will that be alright?

and in my community tank... there's just some angels, bolivian rams and swordtails. are any of them predators?

angels are a big no. even a small angel (3 inch) can tackle a guppy or molly fry at 15 weeks old, i know. the ram may take interest. they are both cichlids which means predatory.

good luck

The parents will eat the fry as well. The best way is to separate the fry from the adults as soon has they have given birth.
