I currently have 9 mollies in a 42 gal tank. Want to add a peppered cory to the mix and didn't know if I should just get one or if they prefer company of their own kind and get two?

They prefer schools of four to six, so I've been LED to believe.

you should get at least 3, they would prefer more though.

Good morning. Although it is suggested that Cory's like to be kept in groups of 5 or 6, they will survive and do well by themselves. Personally I would at least get 2.

You can keep just 1 however like already meantioned they do prefer to school and do better in groups.

I have one cory in my 5g with 3 Mollie babies and Kirby, our cory, does a great job keeping the tank clean! We are going to get him 2 buddies and put them in our newly cycled 10g to keep it clean.
