Fishlings

Hello everyone.

Parameters:

pH 7.6
Ammo 0.0
Nitrites 0.0
Nitrates 5.0

Temp: 78 degrees

Fish in tank: 1 gold dust molly (f), 1 dalmation molly (m), 1 unknown platy (f) and 1 mickey-mouse platy (m).

And...

I've got Molly Fry!!!

About 3 to 4 weeks ago, I came home from work and realized that my female gold-dust molly looked incredibly thin. (Not in a sick way, but she was a tub-o-lard). I suppose I didn't realize she was pregnant I just thought she was a food hog. Long story short. About 2 weeks ago while I was vacuuming my gravel I saw two tiny black objects dart under a rock. I thought to myself... Oh my goodness, I believe those were little fishlings. Well, I separated my adult fish in an attempt to locate fry. I found only 2 (I think the others must have gotten eaten). So I bought a breeder box and put the little guys in there. (I named them Splish and Splash). Its been about 2 weeks and I don't see any significant growth in the babies. I'm going to estimate that they are approximately 3-4 weeks old since thats when I noticed the mom was skinny. The one fry has grown, larger than her sister, but should they be bigger? I'm going to say they are approximately 3/8" in length. Any feedback? Suggestions?

Also, is it too soon to try and sex them? They both look like females, but I didn't know if the sex could possibly change as they grow.

Sidebar: I tried to take pictures but they are fast little swimmers!

Also... What is this fish!?!? I think its a platy. And. Doesn't she look pregnant?

3/8 is a little small for 4 wks but is about right for 2 weeks.

What are you feeding the fry? finely crushed flakes as a basic food is fine but being mollies a little bit of courgette, cucumber or peas shelled and chopped in tiny pieces would be appreciated and also baby brine shimps occasionally if you could find them.

I agree that looks like a platty and yes she may well be pregnant

I've just been feeding them crushed flakes. I suppose I could try the egg yolk thing since other people have suggested it else-where. I tried feeding my adults cucumbers before and they didn't even touch it. Maybe I'll try it with the fry. Thanks for the input!

I read the instructions on how to make it. According to the site, it makes green water... Then what. I'm not going to pour green water into my tank? That just seems ridiculous when my parameters are perfect right now...
