| None. Mollies need filtered, heated water. 10 gal min IMO |

| unfortunately no, mollies are tropical fish and need temperatures of at least 78 degrees, they also need filtration and space to swim. a bowl isn't nearly enough room and is impossible to keep the water quality where you need it to be, it would require water changes daily or even twice daily.
IMO i wouldn't even put one mollie in a 5 gallon, it's pretty small and they need LOTS of space to swim. i think your best bet for stocking would be either one betta, one dwarf puffer OR two african dwarf frogs
welcome to fishlore! |

| A gold fish bowl would not really work as you cannot heat and filter it and without that you would lose many if not all the fry. Stable temperatures are important with all tropical fish but even more so with fry.
If the choices you have is to move a pregnant molly and her fry to a heated and filtered 5 gal or a goldfish bowl the 5gal is by a very long way the better option. |

fabcab, really sorry about your frog. It's so sad to lose a fin baby. I agree that mollys need a larger tank. Here's some info you can read about them: Mollies Last edited by Lucy; March 4th, 2009 at 06:30 PM.

Are you testing your water? It would be a good idea to try and figure out why the frog passed before the other inhabitants of the tank get ill. |

| no actually I am not testing my water but i found my frog dead intertwined in one of my plastic plants and I think that is the cause of its death. But If it wasn't im new to the whole fish care thing and how would I test my water? |

| First thing to do is understand the nitrogen cycle. Here's a link to it: NitrogenCycle
Get yourself a liquid test kit that tests for ammonia nitrites nitrates and pH. The API master kit is really reliable. Try to avoid the strips, they're innacuate.
In a cycled tank your readings will be 0 for ammonia 0 nitrites with 5-10 nitrates.
If there's any ammonia or nitrites you'll need to do water changes until your tank is cylced.
ADF's are very sensitive to water conditions. Many of the frogs that are sold now are also infected with Chytrid Fungus Luckily it doesn't effect fish, but keep your eye on your other frog. My frogs are always swimming through my plants so I would look to water quality or fungus as being an issue.
Since you don't have a test kit yet, it wouldn't hurt to do a water change tonight.
Good luck |

| And before I Finally go, Lucy about the tests for the water will it hurt my tank or any of its inhabitants? |

| The tests won't hurt, you won't be adding anything to their water.
They come with test tubes. You put tank water in the test tubes then add drops from the test kit.
It seems a bit daunting at first, but it's kind of fun. My husband calls me the mad scientist when I get the kit out. lol |

| Hi.. Mollies can grow to a pretty good size for livebearers and with 2, you're looking at a 1-sided pecking order that could be too much for the molly on the low end of it. I would recommend getting a 20g as soon as you could, along with 1 more molly.
They can have a bit of aggressiveness too, especially in cramped quarters and a 5g is likely to stunt their growth, causing shorter livespan and more health issues for them. They'll be ok for a little while, but definitely will be happier and benefit from a tank that lets them grow, have another molly and establish territory. |
