mollies dying, new tank

Hello,

We shifted to a new place, and am back with my baby size tank

The problem is my fish are dying.

I am back with mollies and think of breeding again. But the problem is since 5 days I got new fish and all are dying. Only one which I got the first time is living and living great.

Others lived for 1 day then their pace slowed. They tend to be at the bottom of the tank and died. I noticed one thing they didn't eat. The tank is not that big, so I have a sponge filter which also acts for giving air bubbles.

I got the new fish. Put the plastic bag in the water kept it for 15 minutes. Then emptied the water and fish in a vessel added a tank water. Kept it for 15 minutes. Moved only the fish in the tank and threw the water away.

After we shifted I noticed once opened the tank from packaging there were things in the tank which unfortunately were metal and got corroded. But I cleaned the tank properly, filled water and kept it for good time and then cleaned filled fresh water. Then I got some new fish.

I haven't put pebbles or plants in the tank. Plan to do it in a day or two

Could you help me solve the problem.

Sorry your fish aren't feeling well. First off what are your tank parameters; ammonia, nitrite and nitrate readings? That would help a lot. Since your tank is only 5 days old your fish are dying from an uncycled tank. You need to do a 50% water change now and daily while your tank cyles using Stress Coat Plus or Prime for a water conditioner. Prime or Stress Coat Plus will detox ammonia for your fsh for 24 hrs but is available for the bacteria to grow.

Thanks. But I haven't got a shop nearby which gives me all equipement for calculate the compounds in the tank like ammonia, nitrate etc.

Also, I wonder I would get Stress Coat Plus or Prime for a water conditioner

Sorry if I wrote a little way off. But the tank is around 20 days old now.

it could be becuase the tank hasn't finished cycling yet. But i thought mollies were pretty hardy? I'm not sure i've never kept them.
But also,
i may have read this wrong but did you say you got new fish?
Becuase it could have just been a bad fish or group of fish. Try to avoid buying them again from that place

but again i could be wrong ;l
i'm pretty noobie...

Another situation arises like mentioned before

Hello everyone back after sometime

As happened earlier 2 mollies suddenly died

Earlier symptoms were the same - loss of appetite for food, always on the floor of the tank.

Its around 5-6 months that everything went smooth. Suddenly last couple of days this happened. 2 Female mollies died one after another within 2 days. As earlier the male lives happily without any worries.

- If its water problem then isn't it correct that all fish have the same issue.

- Is it that the male is bullying the females that causes them to behave like that.

- Is it that the water quality has worsen

Around 3 days back I had noticed a dead fly in the tank, I have no clue where did it come in from. Do you think triggered the death.

I generally change the water every week removing 40% of old water and adding new water into it. I do remove the excreta with a pump. The new water is treated 1 day in a bucket with chlorine remover and a little dose of medicine.

Can anyone tell me the reason.

Do you know about the nitrogen cycle?
Do you know how big the tank is?

These questions will help determine how your mollies are dying. They need quite large tanks as they can grow quite big.

Stress can cause death from being in a tank too small. Ammonia can also kill them.

What medicine are you adding to the water? If it's not needed, than it'll generally kill the fish in the wrong dosage. Meds should generally only be used as a last resort.

Hey,

Tank is around 10 gallons. Only 3 fish, now 1 (sad)

I will check the ammonia levels. But can it happens within 2 days time.

In india where I live I have hardly found any good aquariums where they have a valid supply of meds. We generally get some goods from china (I suppose). Basically two bottles one contains de-chlorination and other is the blue color liquid which I refer as med. Basically, to remove white spots and other diseases. I won't be very sure that it is reliable. I am still hunting for good aquariums.

But it cannot affect after 6 months can it. And I do not add it every time.

Can it happen that the male bullies the females

You should really check up on what the 'meds' are. It could have damaging effects on your fish. It may not, but, it's still not worth it.

Mollies need a minimum of twenty gallons unfortunately, they get stressed and this could be a factor that they have died.

Generally if you are to have males and females together, you'll need three females to one male. This way thyey won't get pestered. Stress from males may also have caussed this.
